A moment of personal satisfaction

I've been playing WoW as long as the game has been out, so that's five years now. I have seldom been anywhere close to the cutting edge—for a while in the first year of release, then again late in the Burning Crusade cycle, and that's it. I really wanted to actually get there this time, to see cutting-edge climactic content while it's still fresh.

And by golly, I have.

This evening, I got to help heal for a 10-person raid on Icecrown Citadel. This is the big time for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack, the home of the Lich King himself. 4 of the 13 bosses are now available, two weeks after the current patch went live and opened up this first wing of the citadel. My guild has, effectively, an A team and a B team of raiders. The A team got all the bosses in their first week. We in the B team...struggled. We tried and tried and tried on Lord Marrowgar, the first boss, and ended up calling it an evening without success. But this time it was different. We sure enough got all of them.

I am a happy WoW player tonight.

I note that this isn't just about the game. I was clear-headed enough to set a goal, capable of sustaining the concentration to work on it, physically and emotionally capable of operating my game controls fast and reliably enough to do my part and of working with a group, capable of coping with setbacks and delays. So there's a lot of real-world achievement here.
